French, Iranian film execs meet to discuss expansion of ties

Cinema experts from France met their Iranian counterparts to discuss the expansion of film-related endeavors between the two countries.

Members of a French cinema organization have met their Iranian counterparts to discuss the expansion of film-related endeavors between the two countries.

Jean-Christophe Baubiat, the director of Research and Distributor Relations of UniFrance, met with the director of Iran’s Farabi Cinema Foundation, Alireza Tabesh, in Tehran on Saturday to discuss broadening of cultural ties between the two countries.

Tabesh relayed information regarding joint projects already implemented by Iran and France, reiterating that his foundation is eager to expand collaboration with French companies.

He also mentioned that Farabi plans to set up theaters for children’s films in the near future.

Baubiat, for his part, said that UniFrance is willing to cooperate with Farabi in screening films for the public and at international events, as well as in film distribution and joint projects.

Following the closing ceremony of the Fajr International Film Festival last week, Baubiat said that UniFrance can provide additional facilities for French cineastes to attend upcoming Fajr festivals. The Frenchman added that his company can also help Iranian directors make their films in France.

UniFrance promotes French films outside France and also supports films that are produced in different countries in the French language.

The French organization established a new educational department, which can dispatch directors or cineastes to Iran to hold workshops.
